CMU Administrators’ Visit and MoU Signing with Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU)

On February 19, 2019 at 15.00 hrs. Clinical Professor Niwes Nantachit, M.D., President of Chiang Mai University, together with a group of university administrators and administrators of the Indian Studies Center visited Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) to discuss and explore the possibility of academic engagement between the two universities.


The delegation of Chiang Mai University was well received by Prof. M. Jagadesh Kumar, Vice-Chancellor and JNU’s executives and discussed academic cooperation on important and mutual interested issues such as exchanging experts in various academic fields including Postcolonial Studies, History, Philosophy and Language (Thai, Hindi, Sanskrit) and student exchanges program. After the productive discussion, both universities signed a cooperation agreement that will lead to the implementation of projects or academic activities in various forms in the near future.


Located in New Delhi, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is India's leading public university and is a world-renowned higher education institution. In 2018, JNU was ranked as the 2nd best university in the country and received the Best University Award from the President of India in the same year. After being founded in 1969, JNU has brought new study programs as well as a new paradigm of teaching and learning into the university education system in India including the ratio of 1 to 10 between the instructor and the learner, teaching methods that encourage learners to find knowledge on their own and giving priority to the learning process rather than just measuring results with exams.
