The 15th Annual International Academic Conference 2024: World Bamboo Day

On Wednesday, September 18, 2024, the Faculty of Architecture, Chiang Mai University, in collaboration with the Faculty of Agriculture, Chiang Mai University, the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (Public Organization), the Program Management Unit for Area-Based Development (PMU A), the South Asia Bamboo Foundation (SAbf), and World Bamboo Day, organized the 15th Annual International Academic Conference under the theme "Developing Bamboo Value Networks for Sustainable Development Goals" at the main conference hall on the 3rd floor of the Faculty of Architecture, Chiang Mai University.
The event’s opening ceremony was presided over by Assistant Professor Dr.Worrasit Tantinipankul, Associate Dean for Research and International Relations, who gave the opening report, and Professor of Practice Dr. Ekkachai Mahaek, Vice President of Chiang Mai University, who delivered the keynote address. Notable international representatives included Mrs. Suphada Chaiwong, Marketing Representative from the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau, Mr. Kamesh Salam, Founder and Executive Director of the South Asia Bamboo Foundation, and Mr. Micheal Abadie, President of the World Bamboo Organization (WBO), who spoke on the importance of international collaboration and the significance of the conference.
The event featured seminars on topics related to sustainable bamboo development and utilization, with expert speakers covering the following topics:
Topic 1: Bamboo Plantation & Restoration by FAO
Topic 2: Bamboo Carbon Farming by Gold Standard
Topic 3: Bamboo Bio Char by Wongpai – Thailand
Topic 4: Bamboo Construction & Architecture

In addition to the seminars, the event included workshops and exhibitions focused on bamboo product design, new business development, and business matchmaking with bamboo industry entrepreneurs. There was also an art and craft exhibition showcasing various bamboo works. These activities, held from September 18-21, 2024, provided participants with valuable opportunities to network and exchange knowledge with bamboo experts from around the world.
