The Lanna Architecture Centre Khum Chao Burirat (Maha Intra), managed by the CMU Faculty of Architecture, has been awarded a prestigious five-star rating from the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) under their STGs STAR program, STGs referring to Sustainable Tourism Goals and STAR referring to the Sustainable Tourism Acceleration Rating program. This recognition highlights the center as an exemplary building that has undergone conservation and restoration with strict adherence to established principles. It serves not only as a valuable resource for future generations to appreciate Lanna architectural heritage but also as a leading conservation model for other organizations throughout Thailand. The Centre serves as a vital research hub for Lanna Architecture and other relevant local styles. It achieves this through comprehensive data collection and analysis, which directly supports conservation and restoration efforts, ultimately establishing rigorous academic conservation principles. Other than research, it acts as a crucial meeting point for architects and the general public, fostering the exchange of knowledge and ideas about local architecture. Furthermore, it is recognized as an important historic tourist attraction in Chiang Mai. All these functions collectively contribute to promote understanding and awareness of the immense value of art and cultural history, thereby advancing sustainable architectural conservation.
The Khum Chao Burirat (Maha Intra) exhibition is open from Tuesday to Sunday, including public holidays, from 09:00 to 16:00, with an audiovisual projector break between 12:00 and 13:00.

TAT’s Sustainable Tourism Acceleration Rating (STAR) program is a government-backed initiative designed to advance high-value and sustainable tourism. It achieves this by establishing tourism standards that align with the Sustainable Tourism Goals (STGs), which in turn, mirror the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).
The STAR program assesses sustainability across four key dimensions: governance, socio-economics, culture, and environment. By integrating collaborative efforts among stakeholders across the tourism industry, the program aims to foster positive and sustainable value for Thai tourism, ultimately positioning Thailand as a sustainable destination.
