Dr. Chayodom Maneechote Cardiac Electrophysiology Research and Training Center (CERT CENTER) Faculty of Medicine, Chiang Mai University Has Been Awarded “Distinguished Dissertation Award Fiscal Year 2022” From National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) On Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at Event Hall 102, BITEC Exhibition and Convention Center, Bangkok

Dr. Chayodom Maneechote from Cardiac Electrophysiology Research and Training Center (CERT CENTER), Faculty of Medicine, Chiang Mai University has been awarded “Distinguished Dissertation Award Fiscal Year 2022 in Medical Science” for his thesis work on ” The Effects of Mitochondrial Fission Inhibitor and Mitochondrial Fusion Promoter on Cardiac Function in Lean and Obese Rats With Cardiac Ischemia/reperfusion Injury”. His major advisor is Distinguished Professor Dr. Nipon Chattipakorn, Director, Cardiac Electrophysiology Research and Training Center (CERT CENTER). His thesis demonstrated that, in the presence of obesity, increased blood flow to the ischemic myocardium was directly associated with myocardial cell injury leading to impaired cardiac function. Excessive mitochondrial fission or fragmentation has been implicated in the pathogenesis of various disorders, including obesity and cardiovascular diseases. Targeting mitochondrial fission given via a Drp1 inhibitor (Mdivi-1) or mitochondrial fusion via fusion promoter (M1) at pre-ischemia, during-ischemia, and the onset of reperfusion during cardiac ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury similarly attenuated cardiac mitochondrial dysfunction and dynamic alteration, leading to reduced arrhythmias, myocardial cell death, infarct size, and cardiac dysfunction during cardiac I/R injury in both normal and obese rats. This is a crucial step in converting a promising intervention with the potential to afford cardioprotection in clinical settings of acute myocardial infarction in diabetic patients, thus providing significant insights for the planning of future clinical investigations. Dr. Chayodom Maneechote has been awarded “Distinguished Dissertation Award Fiscal Year 2022 in Medical Science” from the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) at the Inventors’ Day event for the year 2021 – 2022 (Thailand Inventors’ Day 2021 – 2022) organized by the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), with Professor Dr. Anek Laotham, Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation presided over the ceremony on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at Event Hall 102-104, BITEC Exhibition and Convention Center, Bangna, Bangkok.
