Summary of the ASIAN Housing Workshop at the Faculty of Architecture, Chiang Mai University 2024

This year marks a special milestone for the Faculty of Architecture, Chiang Mai University, We began the 2024 academic year with our largest international workshop to date, titled "Asian Housing Workshop," which brought together over 80 students and 10 professors from 5 universities across 4 countries.
August 10, 2024 - Special Excursion
Before the workshop, participants from Feng Chia University (FCU), Japan Woman’s University (JWU), Tianjin University (TJU), and Tamkang University (TKU) were treated to a special excursion, visiting significant sites such as:
Wat Ton Kwan
Lanna Rice Barn
Maiiam Contemporary Art Museum
Weave Artisan Society
Wua Lai Saturday Walking Street

August 11, 2024 - Continued Excursion

August 12, 2024 - Workshop Day 1
The day began with the official opening ceremony of the ASIAN Housing Workshop, with participation from Chiang Mai University, FCU, JWU, TJU, and TKU. This was followed by a briefing on the project "New Public Space and Prototype of Housing for the Mae-Kha Canal Community," which aims to redevelop public spaces and housing for the Mae-Kha Canal community, supported by the Chiang Mai municipality.
Special thanks to Jai Baan Studio and Mae-Kha City Lab for their insightful presentations and guidance.
In the afternoon, participants visited Zone 4 of the Mae-Kha Canal for a site visit and brainstorming session at the ARCHCMU VDO Wall. We appreciate the support from Mae-Kha City Lab and Warong Wonglangka, Lectuerer of Landscape Architecture Program for facilitating the site visit.
August 14, 2024 - Special Lectures
Special lectures were delivered by professors from JWU, TKU, FCU, and TJU, followed by students presenting their schematic designs in the afternoon.
August 15, 2024 - Mid-Workshop Excursion

August 17, 2024 - Final Presentation Day
The workshop concluded with creative design presentations from each group, followed by a celebratory moment.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the students and faculty from Chiang Mai University’s Integrated Design in Emerging Architecture program (IDEA), FCU, JWU, TJU, and TKU for their participation.
Lastly, a special thanks to Mishima Sensei for providing valuable feedback, and to our organizing team—Pla Pareena, Qian Rui, Prem, and Amm—for making this event a success.
