Faculty of Social Sciences, CMU, Explores Pathways to Carbon Neutrality
27 March 2025
Faculty of Social Sciences
On March 26, 2025, Assistant Professor Dr. Phonpat Hemwan and Assistant Professor Dr. Arisara Charoenpanyanet, faculty members from the Department of Geography, Faculty of Social Sciences, Chiang Mai University, welcomed Dr. Sadudee Supanpai, Deputy Managing Director of the Office of Sustainability and Governance, along with his team, to discuss potential future research collaborations. This initiative aligns with the Faculty of Social Sciences' strategic goal of enhancing the quality of research and academic work that connects local communities with the global academic network.
This meeting was in line with the faculty’s strategy of fostering knowledge creation that benefits society and can be applied at both local and international levels. The discussion focused on leveraging Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to study hotspot areas and explore pathways toward Carbon Neutrality, aiming to mitigate pollution and global warming while promoting a sustainable environment.
Both parties exchanged insights on available resources and capabilities to support research efforts, as well as opportunities for disseminating research findings and establishing joint projects in the future. These collaborations are expected to strengthen academic partnerships, expand networks between educational institutions, private organizations, and local communities, and create a lasting positive impact on society and the environment.
