Congratulations to the team of Agro-Industrial Biotechnology students on receiving the Silver Medal (Undergraduate Level) in the field of Agriculture and Food Industry at the Higher Education Innovation Awards 2025.
19 June 2025
Faculty of Agro-Industry
The Faculty of Agro-Industry, Chiang Mai University, proudly congratulates the team of Biotechnology students for winning the Silver Medal (Undergraduate Level) in the category of Agriculture and Food Industry for their project titled “Synbiotic Milk Tablets Enriched with Thai Probiotic Strain and Banana Resistant Starch for the Management of Metabolic Syndrome in Children” at the Higher Education Innovation Awards 2025, organized by the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation, held on June 18, 2025, at the Bangkok Convention Centre, CentralWorld.
Synbiotic Milk Tablets: A New Choice for the Health of Thai Children
Metabolic syndrome in Thai children is an emerging health concern. In response, the research team has developed synbiotic milk tablets containing the Thai probiotic strain Lactiplantibacillus plantarum CMUB-N14, known for its cholesterol-lowering ability and production of short-chain fatty acids. The product is also enriched with banana-derived resistant starch, serving as a prebiotic to support probiotic function in the gut. These milk tablets are designed to be easy to consume, tasty, child-friendly, and portable.
This innovation aims to become a dietary supplement that effectively helps reduce the risk of and manage metabolic syndrome in Thai children. The product development considers the unique gut microbiota of the Thai population and utilizes locally available ingredients. The team is currently in the process of registering the product with the Thai FDA to provide Thai children with better health care options.
