ICDI-CMU Visits Ranong to Explore Logistics Routes and Gather Stakeholder Insights for Thai Rail System Development

From 15 to 17 June 2025, the International College of Digital Innovation (ICDI), Chiang Mai University, led by the Dean in her capacity as the project leader, together with project advisors, subject-matter experts, and support staff, conducted a field visit to Ranong Province. The purpose was to explore logistics routes and gather feedback from local stakeholders as part of the project titled “Development of an Information System for the Management of Logistics and Supply Chain for Freight Transportation Between China, Africa, Europe, Malaysia, and Singapore via the Thai Rail System” for the 2024–2025 fiscal year.
The primary objective of this visit was to gain insights into the opportunities and challenges related to the development of rail freight transportation in the regional context. During the visit, the project team met and held discussions with key agencies in Ranong Province, including:
• Mr. Supot Phutikiatkhajorn Governor of Ranong Province
• Mr. Vorachit Deachborvornlak, Head of Ranong Customs
• Mr. Jakkrit Kumpai, General Manager of Ranong Port
• Mr. Manit Sitthamrong, Policy and Planning Analyst, Senior Professional Level, Office of the Ranong Provincial Industry
• Mr. Chaipat Setthayukanont,Board Member, Ranong Chamber of Commerce (Transportation Public works and town & country planning)
This initiative aimed to collect in-depth geographical, economic, and stakeholder data to support a comprehensive analysis. The findings will contribute to developing strategic recommendations for enhancing the national logistics management system in alignment with future infrastructure development, particularly the rail sector, which holds great potential as a key mechanism for international and regional connectivity.
This project reflects the ongoing commitment of the International College of Digital Innovation, Chiang Mai University, to advancing research and academic services in digital innovation for regional development. It also supports Thailand’s efforts to integrate its logistics systems internationally through the effective application of data and modern technologies.
