CMU Agro-Industry Researchers Win Royal Award for “CherryKoff” at Agri Plus Award 2025 Innovative functional beverage transforms coffee cherry pulp into value-added health products

The Faculty of Agro-Industry, Chiang Mai University proudly congratulates the research team behind “CherryKoff: A Functional Beverage from Coffee Cherry Pulp,” which earned the 2nd runner-up Royal Trophy from HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn in the “Rising Star” category of the Agri Plus Award 2025.
“CherryKoff” was developed through multidisciplinary collaboration led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wassanai Wattanutchariya of the Faculty of Engineering, Chiang Mai University, who heads the AIMCE research group (Advanced Industrial Manufacturing and Circular Economy). The project brought together researchers from the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Business Administration, Faculty of Economics (Chiang Mai University), Faculty of Architecture and Fine Arts (University of Phayao), and the Faculty of Agro-Industry, Chiang Mai University.
The award ceremony was held on May 23, 2025, at the Thailand Science Park, with Mr. Phichai Naripthaphan, Minister of Commerce, presiding over the event.

CherryKoff is a functional beverage derived from coffee cherry pulp, a by-product from coffee bean processing. The project was supported by:
- Agricultural Research Development Agency (Public Organization)
- Boncafe (Thailand) Co., Ltd.
under the research initiative: “Enhancing the Capacity of Thepsadet Community through High-Value Product Innovation from Coffee Processing and Integrated Management.”
In addition to CherryKoff, the research team developed dried preserved coffee cherry snacks and helped establish a BCG Learning Center in the Thepsadet community as a sustainable model for upcycling agricultural waste into functional products in alignment with the BCG Economy Model—a framework that could be expanded to other communities in the future.
