CMU ranks 75th globally and holds the top position in Thailand for SDG13 (Climate Action), SDG4 (Quality Education), and SDG5 (Gender Equality), and secures the second spot in SDG9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure).

On June 12, 2024, Times Higher Education announced its University Impact Rankings 2024, featuring 2,152 institutions from 125 countries. The rankings are based on the criteria aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This year sees 77 Thai universities in the rankings with 12 new entries with CMU ranked No 75 in the world and third in the country with an overall score of 90.5 out of 100, a 0.8 improvement from last year. The result reflects our progress towards becoming a leading university committed to social responsibility and sustainable development. We are steadfast in our commitment to achieving this goal through innovation aligned with CMU's Educational Development Plan, Phase 13.
Remarkably, CMU made the global top 20 in two SDGs. In SDG 4: Quality Education, from 1,681 participating institutions, CMU is at No 15, up by 55 places from last year. The global top three includes Aalborg University at No 1 and Hong Kong Baptist University and Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham at second and third, respectively. In SDG5: Gender Equality, CMU is ranked 18 out of 1,361 institutions, moving up 27 places. As for SDG 13: Climate Action, CMU is No 101-200 in the world and holds the top spot in the country for three consecutive years, marking its third national first.
CMU has also reached the global top 100 in two SDGs – SDG 17: Partnership for the Goals at No 94 out of 2,031 institutions and SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure at No 96 out of 1,018.
As for other SDGs, CMU has made the rankings in another 11 Goals, placing at No 101 – 200 globally in SDG 1, SDG 2, SDG 3, SDG 6, SDG 7, SDG 11, SDG 12 and SDG 15, No 301 – 400 in SDG 8 and SDG 16, and No 401 – 600 in SDG 10.

The website https://sdgs.cmu.ac.th/ has been set up a central platform showcasing SDGs-related projects by CMU faculties and sections. As indicated in the CMU Educational Development Plan, Phase 13, the vision of becoming ‘A Leading University Committed to Social Responsibility for Sustainable Development through Innovation’ features an objective of reaching the top 50 of the THE University Impact Rankings. Embracing sustainable development through the SDGs, we are advancing new educational approaches and integrating technology into our operations to establish ourselves as a model university of innovation for communities, actively engaged in fostering sustainable development.

CMU’s annual advancements underscore our collective efforts across all sectors and stakeholders—from academic and administrative staff to students—aiming to establish a university that serves as a model for innovation in communities and champions sustainable development. This commitment is reflected in our teaching, research, and social services, as well as in collaborative activities involving networks of organizations at regional and national levels. Ultimately, we strive to translate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into tangible success through integrated practices.
