CMU Student Development Division and CMU Smart Campus Management Centre (SCMC) have launched a campaign to promote wearing helmet on campus to prevent injuries by giving away prizes to riders who wear helmets while on the road. Implemented as a part of the CMU Smart City Plan, the campaign has received great feedback from the online community, potentially leading to a significant rise in helmet-wearing.

This campaign aims to incentivize helmet-wearing by giving away prizes to regular helmet-wearing motorcycle riders who have registered with CMU thanks to the helmet-wearing detection technology and the Smart Gate technology that obtains data from the license. To reach the target group, who are students and regular CMU visitors, the campaign is run on the Facebook Page CMU Today, randomly giving away five prizes on the 1st and the 16th of every month, starting September 1, 2023.

Lucky Helmet has been well-received online due to its creativity in creating an incentive for strict traffic regulation compliance. It has also attracted attention from the public, making them more inclined to wear helmets in the hopes of having a chance to win the lottery.

This campaign is not the only activity in CMU’s effort to promote road safety. Soon, the CMU Safety Road Festival will be hosted to provide education on road traffic, maintenance checks and driver’s license and Compulsory Vehicle Insurance renewal.
