A Decade of Friendship between Chiang Mai and Hokkaido
25 January 2024
Corporate Communication and Alumni Relations Center (CCARC)
On January 25, 2024, Chiang Mai Province held a workshop to enhance the efficiency of Sister City and Foreign Affairs Projects for the 10th anniversary of friendship between Chiang Mai and Hokkaido. The event was held at the Centara Riverside Chiang Mai Hotel. In attendance were Governor Nirat Pongsitthavorn, Mr. Higuchi Keichi, the Consul-General of Japan in Chiang Mai, and Professor of Practice Dr. Charin Techapan, CMU Vice President, along with administrators, government agencies, and related parties. The purpose of this workshop was to promote relations and enhance collaboration between Chiang Mai and Hokkaido, which began in 2013.
Since establishing relations, there have been developments in all aspects, connecting the public, private, and civil sectors through visits and exchanges of students, as well as soft power products such as food, clothes, and other cultural artifacts. Going forward, collaborations in trade, investment, and education will result in closer and lasting ties between the two parties.
At the event Dr. Chirawath Phatsara, Assistant to the President, was invited to give a talk on educational exchange, alongside a panel of experts in sister-city establishment, trade and economic relations, and tourism promotion.
