International collaboration is a key mission for Chiang Mai University, aiming to raise the bar on competence and capacity on an international scale in response to a proactive strategy plan, especially given that education is an important tool in enhancing foreign relations in all aspects. In August, CMU President, Clinical Prof. Niwes Nantachit, signed two MOUs with institutions from China and Japan to establish collaboration on human resources, knowledge and technology, experience, teaching, research, and academic service, among others.

One MOU was signed with Sichuan Tourism University for the purpose of smart tourism development with the agreement to hold exchanges for students, lecturers, researchers, joint research, lectures, seminars, academic conferences, and personnel development regarding smart tourism, as well as enhancing digital innovation capacity. Sichuan Tourism University offers widely recognised programmes in different disciplines. In particular, the Hilton Hotel Management School is the second college in the world that has the Hilton brand, and it is one of the 100 colleges that offer an applied integrative and developmental study programme in collaboration with leading institutions and organisations such as University of Perugia, Dubai Hotel Management School, Toulouse Hotel Management School, and the University of Edinburgh. It also has a long-standing relationship with organisations from Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Australia, the US, and others.

Another MOU was signed by CMU’s Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Architecture, and Northern Science Park, as well as Taisei (Thailand) Co., Ltd., to promote knowledge exchange on the application of engineering to solve social problems through personnel exchange and cooperative studies, as well as equipment and facility use, media and publications from both parties, knowledge and experience exchange, consultation, and curriculum and training programme development. The projects implemented under this collaboration include the Northern Science Park’s extension construction project, the Northern Science Park’s smart building project, the New Normal for Innovative Food Fabrication Pilot Plant and Facility Management project, and the first phase of aggregate development from construction waste. These projects are development of insights on advanced technology and add values that would benefit the economy and society.

These MOUs are the key to greater educational and technological development and all-around improvement on the international scale, as well as to the production of quality graduates and the country’s development.
