Excursion to Mae Kampong Village Organized by the International College of Digital Innovation, Chiang Mai University
9 September 2024
International College of Digital Innovation
The International Student Support Initiative at Chiang Mai University (ISSI-CMU), under the International College of Digital Innovation (ICDI), successfully organized an educational excursion for international students to Mae Kampong Village on 8 September 2024. This event was part of the Study Explore Embrace Diffuse (SEED) initiative, which aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 4: Quality Education, Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, and Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
The excursion began with a visit to Sankampang Hot Springs, where students engaged in preparing "onsen eggs" and enjoyed the natural hot spring water. The group then traveled to the Passa Tea Plantation, where they learned about sustainable agricultural practices and community engagement. The trip concluded at Mae Kampong Village, renowned for its traditional Lanna architecture and peaceful atmosphere, providing students with direct exposure to a sustainable community that has successfully preserved its cultural heritage.
The trip reinforced the importance of SDG 4 by providing students with experiential learning opportunities that engaged them with local traditions and sustainable practices. Through SDG 11, the excursion demonstrated the value of maintaining sustainable and inclusive communities. SDG 16 was represented in the promotion of peaceful coexistence, intercultural understanding, and community building among international students. Additionally, the event aligned with SDG 17 by fostering collaboration and partnerships between international students, local communities, and Chiang Mai University, highlighting the role of educational institutions in supporting sustainable development and global citizenship.
ICDI remains committed to organizing activities that enrich the international student experience, foster intercultural dialogue, and contribute to the university’s dedication to the SDGs, particularly through partnerships that promote education, sustainability, and community engagement.
