Architecture student wins at Wooden Furniture Design Contest by Corrections Dept.
14 December 2021
Faculty of Architecture
Ms. Kannika Rattanabut from the Faculty of Architecture, CMU, was named the winner of the Best Eating Utensil Design category at the 2021 edition of the Wooden Furniture Design Contest held by the Department of Corrections. She accepted the award from Mr. Ayuth Sintoppant, Director General of Department of Corrections, on December 12, 2021, at the Chiang Mai Women’s Correctional Institution.
This year’s competition focused on the development of product designs that would be commercially competitive, and promoting public engagement in the Department’s wooden furniture development and acceptance and forgiveness for inmates. It aimed to create added value and give a modern take to the designs, making the products more accessible to younger demographics, as well as developing professional skills that would allow inmates to build careers after serving their sentences. There was a total of 153 projects submitted by students and the general public, judged by a panel of experts in wooden furniture design and development.
