Chiang Mai University has finished treating the patients at Women’s Dormitory No. 5, which ceased admitting COVID-19 patients on May 10, 2021, after the situation in Chiang Mai began to resolve. This closure will allow the healthcare worker team to focus on patients with severe conditions in the hospital. Women’s Dormitory No. 5 is currently prepared for cleaning and disinfection to accommodate incoming residents.
The 300-bed field hospital was set up in compliance with the standards of the Department of Disease Control to treat CMU students and staff infected with COVID-19 in order to reduce overcrowding at Chiang Mai’s main field hospital. It began admitting COVID-19 patients on April 10, 2021, and care was provided by a team of healthcare professionals from Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital, Faculty of Medicine. Moreover, the Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) was set up to provide comprehensive support to students and staff. During its one month of operation from April 10 to May 10, a total of 395 patients received treatment at Chiang Mai Field Hospital 2.
As the number of new cases in Chiang Mai declined to a controllable level, and the number of patients with severe conditions increased, CMU closed the converted field hospital to allow the healthcare workers to focus on treating patients with severe conditions in the hospital. To prepare for the arrival of new students in the 2021 academic year, all rooms and areas in the Women’s Dormitory No. 5 will be cleaned and disinfected with ozone and nano-silver, in accordance with the safety standards, and all mattresses will be replaced. Once the cleaning process is complete, it will undergo a landscape adjustment to become one of the 15 livable dormitories on campus. Students and parents may rest assured that their health and safety are taken care of.
CMU students or staff who become infected with COVID-19 can report it to the University at https://cmu.to/ReportCoV19P so they can be assisted in the admission for care provided by Chiang Mai Province. In the meantime, CMU will continue to monitor the situation closely and maintain precautions.
