During the past 5 to 10 years, the world has been undergoing a ‘digital transformation’ in which changes happen rapidly, particularly, integrating IT into medical practices such as patient information management, prediction of appropriate treatment for individual patients, or enhancement of management efficiency. The Faculty of Medicine recognizes the importance of responding to the diverse demands from the society and the national plans - Thailand 4.0 and Digital Thailand. With the collaboration from the following faculties: the Faculty of Science, the Faculty of Engineering, the College of Arts, Media and Technology, and the Information Technology Service Centre - the Faculty of Medicine is offering a seven-year Double Degree program in Medicine and Data Science. The students will earn a Doctor of Medicine and a Master of Science (Data Science) degree upon completion. Graduates can use this knowledge in the field of medicine, data management, and analysis for practical application, problem-solving, and synthesis. This marks an important milestone for modern medicine.

The Double Degree Programme in Medicine and Data Science is a national model that integrates medicine (undergraduate degree) and data science (postgraduate degree), drawing insights from different disciplines such as computer science and engineering, mathematics, statistics, IT management, and business administration. Graduates of this program will be able to apply the knowledge in the processing of visual, audio, video, or textual data to diagnostics and treatment such as detecting abnormalities in X-rays or CT images or developing a predictive model of outbreaks. Moreover, the benefits can extend to the data management in healthcare facilities in terms of medical and corporate data for maximum efficiency. Data from both internal and external sources - whether they are unstructured data or audio data from interviews - the data is used to make evidence-based policy proposals. Students enrolled in this program have the opportunity to access real data and receive supervision from experts in the fields.
This program is another milestone of Chiang Mai University towards the internationally-recognized quality of education that serves the needs of the new generation of learners and the society, produces physicians with high capacity, ready to give back to the community, and support the country’s development in different dimensions.
