Chiang Mai University (CMU) has launched an innovative Bachelor of Science program in Smart Agriculture and Food Entrepreneurship (SAFE), a multidisciplinary collaboration involving six faculties: Agriculture, Engineering, Science, Agro-industry, Business Administration, and the College of Art, Media and Technology. The program integrates diverse knowledge to cultivate essential skills for future entrepreneurs across the smart agriculture and food value chain.
SAFE offers comprehensive education from farm to table, covering plant and animal production, agricultural business, food technology, and sustainability. Students will also master smart agricultural technologies like machinery, drones, vertical farming, plasma technology, agrivoltaics, and Big Data for enhanced efficiency.
Furthermore, the curriculum equips learners with entrepreneurial and business acumen, including agricultural business development, modern marketing, and finance. Internships with industry leaders will prepare them for entrepreneurship. The four-year curriculum features multidisciplinary studies in animal and plant production in the first two years, followed by specializations in the third year, and an entrepreneurial incubation system (Build and Basecamp 24) or private sector engagement in the final year, with the Faculty of Agriculture as the lead agency.
Graduates can pursue diverse careers as entrepreneurs, business administrators, supply chain specialists, smart agriculture planners, and technology innovators. The SAFE program will commence in Academic Year 2025.
