Professor Dr. Rawiwan Oranratmanee, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, and Associate Professor Dr Thongchai Fongsamootr, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, signed an MoU regarding the management of the Bachelor of Science programme in Industrial Design, which is offered by both faculties, ensuring the suitability and standards of the education provided, as well as providing academic support for a seamless operation between the two. Held on February 21, 2023, at the Faculty of Architecture’s Grand Meeting Hall on the 3rd Floor, the ceremony was attended by Assistant Professor Dr. Uttapol Smutkupt, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Engineering; Associate Professor Dr. Wassanai Wattanutchariya, Assistant to the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering; Assistant Professor Dr. Suriyah Thongmunee, Deputy Director of CMU STeP; and Dr. Tinnakorn Phongthiya, Assistant Director of CMU STeP.
There was also a session introducing BSc in Industrial Design by Dr. Patawee Arayaphanon, Programme Director, and Assistant Professor Dr. Pandin Ounchanum, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and International Relations at the Faculty of Architecture. The programme is a collaboration between the two faculties and is an integration of the two fields, which promote designing principles that create aesthetics for people and the community, which is then combined with technology, material development, and environmental sustainability. These concepts form the philosophy of the programme, which aims to produce graduates capable of producing innovation that contributes to society, the environment, and sustainability amidst the dynamics of change through the integration of engineering and architecture and the adaptation of local wisdom combined with modern technology. This up-and-coming profession and business will play an important role in advancing the country's economic growth.
The event also featured a talk by two experts in industrial design. Mr. Phongsathorn La-iad-on, Chief Design Director at FiF DESIGN Studio, and Mr. Chanchalad Khanjanawong, industrial designer and founder of GREYRAY, shared their experience and inspiration with the participants.
