On September 26, 2024, Professor Dr. Pongruk Sribanditmongkol, President of Chiang Mai University (CMU), along with the university’s executive team, warmly welcomed Mr. Kim Young-Hwan, Governor of Chungcheongbuk-do, South Korea, and his delegation of leaders from the province and top educational institutions. The delegation visited Chiang Mai University to sign an academic cooperation agreement between CMU and Chungcheongbuk-do, along with leading institutions such as CB Techno Park and CB Cultural Foundation. This signing marks a significant step in strengthening cooperation in education, research, technology, and innovation, bringing substantial benefits to both sides.
The partnership focuses on academic exchanges of students and personnel, the development of joint research projects, and the provision of scholarships and skill-building initiatives essential for the modern era. Additionally, the cooperation will contribute to sustainable economic and social development, particularly in areas of expertise shared by both regions, such as technology, agriculture, industry, and local development. This collaboration will help enhance global competitiveness.
After the signing ceremony, Mr. Kim Young-Hwan presided over the opening of the Chungbuk K-International Student Project at the Rice Grain Auditorium, Northern Science Park. This event aims to elevate Chiang Mai University as a hub for international learning and networking, aligning with CMU’s mission of education, research, and academic services, in accordance with its internationalization strategy and sustainable development goals.
The project is designed to foster educational exchanges and build long-term cooperation between Chiang Mai and Chungcheongbuk-do.
Professor Dr. Pongruk, the CMU President, expressed his congratulations at the event, stating, “I am deeply honored to be part of this project, which is a key step in creating educational opportunities and cultural cooperation between Thailand and Chungcheongbuk-do. This initiative aligns with CMU’s mission to promote international partnerships for sustainable development.”
The event also featured exhibitions on food innovation, cosmetic manufacturing, and information booths from leading universities in Chungcheongbuk-do, which attracted significant interest from students and school attendees across Chiang Mai province.
