Safe Zones for the Smog Crisis
5 April 2019
Corporate Communication and Alumni Relations Center (CCARC)
Chiang Mai University is aware of the smog crisis and has implemented preventative measures including the distribution of N95 masks to students and staff. Furthermore, CMU has provided “Safe Zones” around the campus where air purifiers and HEPA Filters have been installed.
Safe Zones are available at:
1. Office of the University
2. Chiang Mai University Library
3. RB Building Classrooms
4. Dormitories
5. Student Development Division, Office of the University
6. Chiang Mai University Health Center (Phai Lom Clinic)
In addition to the main buildings, many faculties, institutions and divisions have also arranged Safe Zones.
However, it is still necessary to wear a mask when outdoors. The mask should be an N95 mask because it is 95% efficient in filtering out PM2.5 particles in comparison to a regular sanitary mask which can only filter out 40-50% of these particles. More importantly, all masks need to be worn properly and should be worn firmly against the face. To do so, mold the mark’s wire insert to fit the shape of your nose and cheeks, then pull the bottom edge of the mask to cover the chin as well.
