Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Chiang Mai University (FVM/CMU) is a veterinary college in the Northern part of Thailand which exhibits about one-fourth of the livestock population in Thailand. The FVM was founded officially on August 2, 1994 which is becoming the fourteenth Faculty of Chiang Mai University in the Health Science Group of Faculties.

Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Chiang Mai University (FVM/CMU) is a veterinary college in the Northern part of Thailand which exhibits about one-fourth of the livestock population in Thailand. The FVM was founded officially on August 2, 1994 which is becoming the fourteenth Faculty of Chiang Mai University in the Health Science Group of Faculties.


FVM/CMU started to enroll veterinary students since 1996 in the curriculum of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.) which is a six-year academic program developed from the national meeting on veterinary medical education in 1992, which aiming at increased emphasis on subject integration, problem-base learning approach, and professional skill particularly in the clinical years. The curriculum comprises of three levels in which pre-veterinary medical subjects are in the first year, pre-clinical veterinary medical subjects in the following two years and clinical veterinary medical subjects in the last three years. The core curriculum integrated covers veterinary biosciences, pathobiology and clinical sciences.

  • Innovative knowledge in the sustainable management of local resources and agriculture-related business and industries. Appling science and technology along with partnering with agencies/ organizations/ local community to find solutions of local social problems and natural resources management both in urban and rural areas.
  • Innovative knowledge of quality assurance system for animal-related products and distribution controls.
  • Innovative knowledge of the impact of environment problems that affect the natural well-being of wildlife and their solutions.
  • Innovative knowledge of technological sciences, health sciences and social sciences for the development of health services, well-being and strength of the community and environmental quality.
  • Innovative knowledge in epidemiology and diagnostic techniques for pet, wildlife and livestock

Degree Programs

Undergraduate Program

We started to enroll veterinary students since 1996 in the curriculum of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.) which is a six-year academic program, which was developed from the national meeting on veterinary medical education in 1992, that aims to increase the emphasis on subject integration, problem-base learning approach, and professional skill particularly in the clinical years. The DVM curriculum comprises of 3 levels in which pre-veterinary medical subjects are in the first year, pre-clinical veterinary medical subjects in the following two years, and clinical veterinary medical subjects in the last three years.

  • pre-veterinary medical subjects are in the first year,
  • pre-clinical veterinary medical subjects in the following two years, and
  • clinical veterinary medical subjects in the last three years. 

The core curriculum integrated covers veterinary biosciences, pathobiology and clinical sciences.

We provide the semester system for the study in the 1st – 3rd year and the yearly system for the study in the 4th – 6th year, in addition to the clinical clerkships of the 6th year students provided in the curriculum, the students will gain the ‘first-hand’ experience in veterinary medicine, including pathobiology & veterinary public health, Clinical rotations through all clinical academic units, and opportunity to choose species of interest for senior research project in 6th Year
